Why your brand and website should be designed together
Why doing both at once usually saves time and money, and gives a far more consistent result.
Plenty of businesses get a logo designed by one person and a website built by another, sometimes years apart. It works, after a fashion. But it's rarely the best way to do it, and here's why.
A logo isn't a brand
A logo is one mark. A brand identity is the whole system around it: colours, typefaces, how images look, how much space things have, how you sound. A website is where all of that has to work together at once, on every screen size, in every state. If the brand was designed without the website in mind, the gaps show up fast: a logo that doesn't fit the header, colours that don't work as buttons, fonts that aren't available online.
One brief instead of two
Both projects start with the same questions. Who are your customers? What do they value? What makes you different? Answering them once, properly, means the brand and the website are built on the same understanding of your business. It also means less of your time spent explaining it twice.
It usually costs less
When the same designer handles both, there's no translating one person's work for another, no rebuilding brand assets for the web and no fixing inconsistencies after launch. That efficiency usually shows up in the price.
Everything launches together
A new brand is a moment. Launching it with a new website, updated social profiles and fresh print all at once makes a much bigger impression than drip-feeding changes over a year. Customers see one clear, confident business.
When separate makes sense
If you already have a strong brand that's working, there's no need to redo it for a new website. A good designer will work within your existing identity and only suggest changes where the website needs them. And if your website is fine but your brand feels dated, a brand refresh can come first, with the site updated to match.
The short version
Your brand is what people remember. Your website is where they decide whether to buy, book or enquire. When both are designed by the same hands, they reinforce each other, and the whole business looks as considered as the work you do.
